Eight_OneTwo is a Huddersfield-based design practice bringing together architecture, interiors and planning consultancy under one roof. We bring years of experience to every project with a friendly, straightforward approach, giving our clients clear, honest advice and the confidence that their project is in experienced hands.
We take the time to understand what you want to achieve and use our experience to guide you through the best route forward. We’re straightforward, approachable and always happy to explain the thinking behind our advice, without unnecessary jargon or complication. We identify the challenges early, offer honest advice and find practical solutions, taking as much of the work and uncertainty out of the process for you as possible.

Our Approach_
Every project starts with its own set of possibilities. Whether we’re working with a new site or an existing building, we look carefully at the context, the way spaces will be used and what the project has the potential to become.
A strong brief sits at the heart of that process. By understanding what our clients want from their project from the outset, we can focus on what matters, challenge assumptions where needed and develop a design that responds intelligently to its people, place and purpose.
To turn your dream into reality we start with a site visit. During this stage we take an in-depth look at your existing context and surroundings. At this point, we will discuss your aspirations, budgets and requirements, which will then be converted into a detailed brief.
Post concept we move onto detailed planning drawings. All our presentation drawings are post-produced in photoshop and where applicable delivered as 3D visualisations. During each milestone, we’ll work together and operate with complete transparency to ensure that all planning drawings are signed-off with your approval.
The business end of the production – this is where our technical team takes the reigns. We’ll provide general arrangement / construction drawings and specifications. This essential information is then passed on to one of trusted contractors. In return, you’ll receive a detailed breakdown of your budget and have complete confidence that your project is in safe hands every step of the way.
For that extra layer of security and peace of mind, we manage the relationship between you and the selected contractor. With this step in place, you can rest assured knowing that we’re here to look after your interests from design and build to completion and aftercare.

Jonathan Lovatt
With 20 years of experience Jonathan is an R.I.B.A chartered architect and managing director and co-founder of Eight_OneTwo Architects.
Jonathan learnt his craft working for a medium sized award winning practice in Sheffield where much of the one off bespoke dwellings where designed solely by him. Jonathan then went on to work for a large commercial [registered architects journal 100 practice] practice with his time spent between Wakefield and London working as lead project architect on projects ranging from £30 to £100 million.
With an understanding, love and passion for contemporary architecture Jonathan is responsible for the meeting of clients to talk about their aspirations and then provides inspiration in form of hand drawn concept ideas walking clients through the design process and seeking to add emotion and architectural drama along every line. Jonathan then overseas the technical team before being responsible for delivering the project on site with our outstanding pool of contractors.
Jonathan sits on the panel for the Royal Institute of British Architects [R.I.B.A] for the Yorkshire region, is the chair of the Huddersfield Society of Architects and is a member of the Huddersfield Civic Society.
Jonathan has also spent the last 2 years as an external guest tutor for the department of architecture at the University of Huddersfield providing critique for the degree and Masters students. Jonathan will also be following this role in a part time capacity from September 2020.
Outside of the practice and other architectural commitments Jonathan is a sports fanatic, primarily in Football, Cricket and boxing, Jonathan has an absurd passion for music and has spent time learning to play the guitar. Jonathan also enjoys keeping fit In the gym and playing squash.
When all that is done spending time with family and friends is paramount, and particular enjoys eating out.

Sarah Dufton
Sarah has worked in the Architectural industry for over 15 years having graduated from Leeds College of Art + Design with a First-Class Bachelor of Arts Degree. On leaving university she has continued to strive for new experiences within her career, which has led to a portfolio of exciting and award-winning projects across multiple sectors, both with UK and overseas clients.
Sarah’s time working for a large, multi-disciplinary architectural practice in Manchester offered many of these opportunities. Her experiences of working as part of a large architectural team has had a big influence on her knowledge and approach to working within the industry. Subsequently, Sarah has developed a passion and understanding for interior design and architecture in equal measure, allowing her to flourish both creatively and technically, making her a valuable member of the team.
When Sarah isn’t demonstrating her passion for design in the office, she’s expressing her enthusiasm out on the tennis court, spending time with her two boys and partner or painting a wall somewhere in the house. With the rackets and paint brushes set aside and the kids in bed for the evening, she can be found enjoying the buzz of a live music venue and sharing a bottle of red wine with her partner and friends.

Richard Hook
Richard is an Architectural Technologist with over 28 years’ experience in a wide range of sectors. He has worked extensively in the residential and commercial sectors, providing job running skills, detailing and technical expertise.
Starting his career at Abbey Hanson Rowe in Huddersfield after graduating from Huddersfield university, he gained valuable experience as part of a team working on retail and commercial developments. After 5 years there, he spent a further 8 years at several practises in Leeds and Manchester working on many large projects at a senior level, often running these on site. In 2005 Richard set up Northlight Architecture with a former colleague and grew the business working in several sectors.
In Richards spare time he can be found on the Moors running [not so much these days] or walking so long as there is a pint and a good curry at the end.

Isaac
Isaac is our part 1 Architecture Student that is currently studying at Sheffield Hallam University.
Isaac is currently learning about the fundamentals of basic principle of design and light manipulation whilst exploring different drawing techniques coupled with studio projects.
At the same time, Isaac is learning value experience here at Eight_OneTwo which is helping him understand the differences between the practical aspects of being in education, and what other roles and responsibilities are involved in the overall process.
When Isaac is not at university you will find him in his second home working part time at his local pub!
In his spare time Isaac enjoys watching and playing football and is currently part of a 5 aside team that plays in a small league in Sheffield. On weekends you will find him airsofting with friends and playing out tactical simulations and team-based games in small CQB sites is always the best for blowing off steam.
Whenever Isaac does find time for relaxing he can be found obsessing over formula 01.

Daisy is our lovely little Lhaso Apso office mascot. She brings so much joy to our office every day. She is always there to greet everyone with a wagging tail and has a special way of making people smile, even on the busiest days. Her calm and affectionate nature helps create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and she loves spending time with the team. Whether she is looking for a cuddle or simply lying nearby, Daisy reminds us to take a moment to pause, making the office feel more like a family.
